The District Council of Grant is the state’s southernmost local government area, located in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. The council was created on July 1, 1996, when the District Councils of Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell merged to become the District Council of Mount Gambier and Port MacDonnell, which now surrounds the City of Mount Gambier. Agriculture, forestry, and fishing are the mainstays of the district’s economy.
