Southern Midlands Council is situated in Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania. The council has a population of over 120,000 and covers approximately 10,000 square kilometres. The Council’s infrastructure services include water and sewerage treatment plants, wastewater recycling plants and metropolitan bus services. The council’s main industries include forestry, agriculture and mining. With an increasing number of jobs being created in the region, it is no surprise that property prices are rising at a similar rate.

The council was formed in 1994 and is responsible for carrying out many of the functions that were traditionally undertaken by state and federal governments and larger regional councils. The area under its administration, bounded by the Hume Highway to the north and east, Darebin Creek to the south and Werribee River to the west, is one of Melbourne’s most dynamic areas in terms of growth as well as infrastructure construction.
