The West Tamar Council is a regional council in Tasmania, Australia, based in Launceston. The Council was formed on 1 January 1989 following the enactment of the Local Government Act 1989, which amalgamated the former councils of Devonport City Council, Launceston City Council and West Tamar Shire Council.

The West Tamar Council covers an area of approximately 5,000 square kilometres and has a population of about 102,000 people. It includes the major centres of Launceston (population 40,000), Campbell Town (population 6500) and Deloraine (population 1500).

The West Tamar Council TAS is a community-built theatre and arts centre that showcases film, music, dance and visual arts. The West Tamar Council TAS was the brainchild of the Arts Advisory Committee in response to the need for an arts facility in Launceston’s northern suburbs. The committee was made up of members from diverse backgrounds including architects, artists, musicians and community representatives. The West Tamar Council TAS is a community-built theatre and arts centre that showcases film, music, dance and visual arts. It is also an important community resource that enables people to come together through shared experiences in what they see on stage or screen.
