Buloke Shire, VIC

Buloke Shire is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, situated in the state’s western region. Birchip, Charlton, Donald, Sea Lake, and Wycheproof are all included in one municipality. It was established in 1995 by the merger of the Shires of Wycheproof, Birchip, Charlton, and Donald, as well as portions of the Shire of Kara Kara.

The Buloke Shire Council governs and administers the Shire; its seat of local government and administrative center is situated at the Council’s offices in Wycheproof; the Shire also includes service centers in Birchip, Charlton, Donald, and Sea Lake. The Shire is called after a significant physical feature in the area, Lake Buloke, which is situated in the LGA’s south; the name is also derived from the “buloke” or “bulloak” tree Allocasuarina luehmannii, which is found across the region.
