The Alpine Shire is a local government area in Victoria’s Hume region, in the state’s northeast corner. The townships of Bright, Dinner Plain, Mount Beauty, and Myrtleford are included. Within the shire, there are two unincorporated areas: the regions around Mount Hotham and Falls Creek.

It was established in 1994 by the merger of the Shires of Bright and Myrtleford, as well as portions of the United Shires of Beechworth, Oxley, Yackandandah, and Omeo. Over 90% of the Shire is comprised of public land. Alpine National Park and Mount Buffalo National Park are both located within the Shire. Tourism, agriculture, and forestry all contribute to the Shire’s economy.

Managers account for 17.9% of all jobs in Alpine, followed by technicians and trades workers at 15.8%, professionals at 14.6%, laborers at 13.0%, and community and personal service workers at 11.7%.
